Exactly twenty-five years ago to this very day, I wrote [ my first blog entry ]. Back in the good old days when the Internet was starting to grow quickly and people began using the new medium to share information with each other.
Blogs were new and exciting, and I was one of the few pioneers who jumped on the bandwagon. Even had to setup my own CentOS/6.10 server running Apache/2.2.15 single handedly, and it worked.
For the blog itself, I used an open source package called Moveable Type which still runs great after all these years. Based on old-fashioned Perl and connected to a MySQL database, how great could it be?!
People showed interest and commented regularly on my many blog entries. I had quite the following. As a side hobby, I even joined a bloggers group that sent out a weekly newsletter reviewing the newest blogs around the world. I was quite active looking for interesting blog candidates and be some kind of professional know it all blog expert (not).
Those pioneering days are now over, unfortunately. Social media has become so prevalent that blogs in general are no longer interesting. Maybe I get a couple visitors a day, or a week, or a month, I am not sure.
I will keep on writing blog entries for another twenty-five years, because it is fun and mentally relaxing.
